Saarc meet off as Pak insists on Taliban presence, others object

NEW YORK: The meeting of the foreign ministers of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc), which was scheduled to be held in ny on the sidelines of the high-level 76th United Nations General Assembly session on Saturday, has been cancelled, consistent with sources.

The member-states apparently couldn’t agree on Afghanistan’s participation with Pakistan insisting that the Taliban be allowed to represent Afghanistan India along side another members objected to the proposal and thanks to lack of consensus or concurrence meet has been cancelled. Nepal was to host the meeting Taliban has not been recognised by India so far . The new regime remains not recognised by the planet and top ministers are blacklisted by the UN. Amir Khan Muttaqi is that the acting secretary of state of the Taliban-led government and he’s unlikely to attend any UN and affiliated meetings. In fact, last week, PM Modi at the SCO meeting said the Taliban may be a non-inclusive government and therefore the world must think before accepting or recognising the regime.
