‘Omicron’ Covid variant: Did WHO skip two letters of Greek alphabet to avoid ‘Xi’?

Hen news from the new SARS-COV-2 variant B.1.1.529 first began to emerge, many expected that if it was marked by the World Health Organization, it would – quite slander – called the ‘Nu’ variant. WHO has named the Coronavirus variant after the Greek alphabet and the next letter available is ‘Nu’.

VDO.AI.However, after the WHO panel met on Friday, they appointed new tensions found in South Africa and Botswana as ‘variants of concern’ and announced that it would be called a ‘omicron’ variant By doing that, they missed two letters from the Greek alphabet – Nu and Xi. But why Martin Kulldorf’s epidemiology, a medical professor at Harvard Medical School, gave possible reasons. Taking to Twitter, he suggested that who jumped over the alphabet and named the new ‘omicron’ variant to avoid potential situations that must be called a ‘xi’ ‘variant.

All things considered, would be somewhat awkward to fight the Coronavirus variant which shared his name with Chinese President Xi Jinping, especially after all the debate over the origin of the original virus. But in bargaining, ‘Nu’ lost his claim for fame too! With a picture of the Greek alphabet, Martin Kulldorf wrote, “NU’s new variant news, but who jumped the alphabet to call it Omicron, so they could avoid XI Ben Zimmer, a language columnist on the Wall Street Journal, tweeted, “Kudos to who was for passing NU and XI names that have the potential to be confusing and directly to Omicron.”

Meanwhile, Paul Nuki, a senior editor in the Telegraph, claimed that the source that had confirmed NU and XI letters were passed to avoid confusion with the word ‘new’ and stigmatization of China and Chinese stigmatization India is currently looking for responses from WHO about why they chose to pass ‘Nu’ and ‘Xi’. However, no response received now.

Omicron variant
On Friday, the World Health Organization sets the SARS-COV-2 variant B.1.1.529 as a ‘variant of attention’. The new Coronavirus variant, which has been detected in South Africa, Hong Kong, Israel and Botswana, named Omicron Which classifies the variant as a “viral concern that is very transplanted”, the same category that includes the dominant Delta variant of Coronavirus. In an effort to contain the threat of the new Covid-19, countries around the world have rushed to force travel prohibitions.

The actual risk of Omicron has not been understood. But early evidence shows that it brings an increased risk of re-infection compared to other very contagious variants, WHO said. That means people who sign covid-19 and recover can be returned again. It takes weeks to find out whether the vaccine is currently less effective against this variant.
